Frequently asked questions.

How are new products added to the PBG ordering system?

New products follow a structured review process that includes product requests, administrative review, student testing, committee evaluation, and competitive pricing. Only products that meet PBG’s standards for compliance, quality, and student acceptance are approved and added to district ordering systems.

For a full explanation of each step, please visit the Product Process page on the website.

How can a member request a new product?

Members may request new products by submitting the New Product Request Form along with the required documentation. The request is reviewed to confirm that a comparable product does not already exist before it may proceed through the evaluation process.

Detailed instructions and required forms are available on the Product Process page.

Is student testing required for new products?

Yes. Products approved for evaluation must complete student testing through a participating member district. To advance in the process, the product must achieve at least 80% student acceptability based on the testing results submitted through the online form.

Is there a deadline for submitting new product requests?

Yes. The annual submission deadline for new products to be considered during the standard review cycle is the last Friday in August. In some cases, unique or specialty products may be considered outside the annual timeline.

Who reviews and approves new products?

Products that successfully complete testing are reviewed by the PBG Executive Committee. When appropriate, products may also be presented at the Member Meeting to gather broader member input before moving forward in the procurement process.

When can districts begin ordering a newly approved product?

Once a product completes the full review process and contracts are executed, the product is added to the Customer Master, and Sysco updates district order guides so that member districts can begin ordering.
